You are so right. I came of age as "women's lib" was getting off the ground. It was a different planet. I've long thought they mis-named it. It should have been called "everybody lib" because its effect on men were almost profound as the effects on women. Most people barely knew their fathers back then and if they did, likely as not didn't like them. Masculinity was an overwrought armor you never put down. Relationships between men and women were harsh and exploitive on both sides. The world was structured for men to be dicks and women to be manipulative. All-male environments were common and unpleasant--much of your life was like the never-ending pissing contest of a prison yard. That kind of purely masculine environment rarely has to be endured anymore. The original kind of feminism made the world radically better for everyone in less than two generations. Whatever feminism is now, I feel like it's not doing that anymore, but treating the world like a zero sum game where the genders have to be enemies. It got so much better, but that doesn't mean it can't get worse again.

I was an artist until my thirties when I discovered computers and jumped ship for a few decades. Now I'm back to it. You can probably find some on instagram.
