Yes, I get that. Just pointing out that the phrase Afro Cuban is highly political in that it says that he is defined by his race first, the Spanish-speaking origins of his parents second, and his American-ness at best third, as you'd have to already know that he's not Cuban. It just seem weird to insist that a guy who is at such pains to present himself as American, rarely pictured out of the company of an American flag, and ostentatiously displays the whole MAGA right more-American-than-thou style is Cuban.
