Yes, I agree. A great wrong doesn't make a lesser wrong right. And Israel deserves some criticism. But no government is perfect--politics means reconciling the contradictory impulses and needs of a diverse population. But the Western European/American fixation with the sins of Israel is so grossly out of proportion to the tolerance they adopt towards the Muslim states it can only mean that either they are crypto-antisemites or they don't believe that it is realistic to hold the Arabs and other Muslim countries to the moral standards they hold themselves to. I believe that both are the case. Academic antisemitism is a tradition of long standing. And the arrogance of their patronizing view of non-Europeans is part of an even longer and more vigorous tradition. The old-school colonialists at least credited their subjugated populations with the capacity for full moral agency. Todays academics and intellectuals see themselves as so far above non-Europeans that they openly declare that moral standards are completely different for us and our brethren of color. To them, no conflict can ever be about what it appears to be about--it must always be a white oppressor and a noble brown person. It's so arrogant it seems like satire.
