Trump's scheme is madness on multiple levels. First, the tarpit that is Gaza would make Vietnam look like Sunday at the park. And it is manifestly illegal under international law. It's been universally acknowledged to be illegal and unacceptable since the ghastly mopping up of the post WW2 days. But the Palestinan situation is not as simple as you paint it. The Jews who voted to become a country after it was officially proposed by the League of Nations and the UN, weren't foreigners stealing land. Sure, some of the Europeans moved there with the intention of eventually becoming the majority. So what? That's a legitimate reason to move. The point is, buying property in your adopted country isn't wrong. Most of my neighbors in New Jersey are from other countries, and they all did it! Some of those who voted to form Israel were first generation naturalized immigrants, but they were citizens, and nowhere close to being the majority. More were either born there or or were displaced Jews from other Ottoman possessions in the immediate area. The "European colony" trope is an antisemitic lie. The nationality situation of the Jews actually wasn't that different from the Arabs. Contrary to myth, most of the Arabs hadn't "been there for thousands of years" either. As with the Jews, a large percentage of "Palestinians" were new Egyptian immigrants, just as many of the Jews were first or second generation! You can't delegitimize their vote any more than you can say that the British of Pakistani extraction aren't really British, or that Spanish speaking US citizens aren't fully citizens. They voted according to the rules of the game as established by the UN. It's settled. The truth is, the fury over Israel's actions in Gaza is profoundly rooted in good old fashioned anti-Semitism. If you doubt this, why wasn't there an outcry when the US killed half a million to a million people over 911? Or pick your massive slaughter of Muslims by other Muslims (there are a dozen to choose from in the last few decades.) Hamas provoked the war specifically to force Israel to launch an all out war, and they deliberately place their fighters and weapons in the midst of civilians in order to get civilians photogenically killed. I ask you, as an American, were you bent out of shape when we killed several hundred thousands people in multiple countries to avenge 911?
