The killing of the disabled and cognitively impaired served as a model for the extermination camps and trained and conditioned many of the people involved. They both used a medical conceptual model and dressed it all up with medical accessories in order to legitimize it. That's why the selections for gassing at the camps were often done by doctors and they always talked about killing the Jews and others in terms of hygiene for the body politic.
