Something happened to the feminist movement. I came of age in the sixties when the second great wave hit. (The generation after the Victorian age, 1900 to 1920's, I'd call the first.) For many years it was a huge net positive for men--almost as much as for women. Emotional freedom, the decline of the clunk-and-drag school of male-female relationships, and gay liberation were all part of that. But by the time my boys were in school in the mid-90's, it had morphed into systematic demonizing of men and boys. My boys came home from early elementary school earnestly wanting to know "why do the teachers hate the boys?" And they clearly did. Today, they hear constantly about "the patriarchy" and how they, not men of the past, but they personally, are responsible for all the ills of the world. Their gender itself is demonized. When do you ever hear "masculinity" without "toxic" prepended? And they're failing wholesale. The do much worse than girls in every single positivearea (except team sports.) and fail much worse in every negative way too, e.g. jail, addiction, homelessness, suicide, criminal behavior, etc. Not just as children--all the way through graduate school and into the workplace. Yet all they hear is how all of the advantages are theirs, and how their sisters are oppressed. Near as I can tell, there was an inflection point in the 90's where it stopped being about liberation and started morphing into something ugly. I personally, think a giant backlash is brewing because young men see liberalism as of a piece with this soul-destroying climate in the schools, in media, in forced classes in the workplace, relentless propaganda in movies, telling them in 1000 ways what shits they are. Ironically, while the majority of younger women are trending farther and farther left, an increasingly significant slice are with the boys on it. People forget, the genders are approximately equal in numbers, so it doesn't take a huge percentage of defectors to swing the electorate. MAGA, Proud Boys, Oath Keepers--all that crackpot crap has surfed into the mainstream on this tide of resentment and IMO, it's getting worse fast.
