I'm an old school liberal who's appalled at where the so-called Left has taken us. It's not progressive. The academic and media Left now despise the working and middle class people who were once the backbone of support for any successful national politician, Left or Right. The "Trump Base" was our base not long ago. The Left, and increasingly the Democrats, have become the party of the Blue State, college-educated upper middle class. Today's academic progressives find working America embarrassing. They only forgive working class or lower middle class people (the vast majority of Americans) if they are members of one of the races/ethnicities that they patronizingly smile upon. It's the first time in history that the party of the progressives hates working people, wants nothing to do with them, and actively foments hatred of them. I've had many a conversation about the First Amendment with so-called progressives, in which they say they are for "free speech" but if you ask, does that include free speech for people on the right, the say with a straight face, "No, of course not." It's surreal. There's no trick to it--the idea is now routine on college campuses that only Leftist free speech should be permitted. What does that even mean?
