I think history and statistics completely back up your basic thesis. All the elaborate explanations notwithstanding, the biggest reason women don't have kids is, because they don't want to. It's as simple as that. The first thing that happens in virtually any society, anywhere in the world, when women are emancipated, is the birthrate drops to the floor.
