I certainly am not saying that the murders are excusable. Who would think that? What I'm saying is that the cultural explanation that is the point of the article seems to be at odds with the published numbers. In most countries, women are about 20% as likely as men to be murdered. Yet in some countries the percent is over 50% and in one, 100% of the murdered people were women. At first glance, you'd think that means that misogyny is rampant in those countries, but in fact, the chance of a woman being murdered in those countries is almost non-existent because murder almost never happens. E.g., in the 100% country, there was only one murder in the whole country, and it was a woman. Last year, the percentage of women was 0%. Some of the countries where women are most likely to be murdered are the ones where the smallest percentage of murders are of women.
