An old friend, valedictorian of her middle-school (yes, that's a thing) and a top performer in high school, somehow scored 70 on her IQ test. She was assured by the guidance counsellor that she mustn't feel too bad, that people with an IQ of 70 can still work and lead useful lives--that there were many kids of work she could still do. She thought she was being kidded at first but no--the counsellor was dead serious and un-moveable. That silly score made her years as a top academic performer invisible to this "education professional." My youngest son (now 30 and obviously highly intelligent) scored 64.
